I can’t believe how many people in leadership positions seem to have lost the ability to make decisions, become masterful at creative problem solving or planning, in a way that turns ideas into action and the spectacular results all businesses need just now
These are the basics of leadership. If we can’t master these, we’ll never be able to master the job of leading effectively.
We spoke to a company last week, it included speaking to their wider leadership team about the issues they’re facing. We then spent some time speaking to their people about the issues they are facing. 90% of the issues their people were facing were about their leaders not making decisions, giving clear direction or their ability to motivate and inspire them to give their best!
So, here’s a really useful tip.
When an issue hits your desk there are only four kinds of action choices you have: –
- You decide not to deal with the issue (Then please let everyone know that’s the action you’ve taken)
- You can assign it to someone else (But please put a date in the diary when you’re going to follow-up with the person to make sure it’s been dealt with)
- You can take immediate action to deal with it yourself
- You can set aside specific time to deal with the issue (Again, don’t forget to put it in your diary and let everyone know it will be dealt with by that day)
So, there you go, end of procrastination.
The team is happy, and you can get on with fighting the challenges from the pandemic.
If you are open to new ideas and willing to change, we’d love to have a conversation with you to see if we can help. Helping organisations to manage their time and their people in order to become more productive is our bread and butter. Get in touch if you want to discuss further.
